OCOV City Hall Rally
Women Creating Change gathered once again with the OCOV Coalition to celebrate history being made. With the passage of Intro.1867, NYC would become the largest city to all green card holders and people with work authorization to vote in city elections.

Civic Matters: How Any Woman Can Make Change: A Panel of Local Changemakers
Attendees heard from three phenomenal speakers on the many ways one can make a difference in their community. The panel featured Thahitun Mariam, Founder of the Bronx Mutual Aid Network, Marjorie Velázquez, City Council Member Elect, District 13, and Cheryl K. Jones, Volunteer, New York Cares. The workshop was led by Deneisha Thompson.

Women Creating Change was proud to gather outside City Hall to call on the City Council to pass Introduction 1867 alongside advocates, elected officials, and other concerned New Yorkers who know that immigrants deserve the right to vote in our local elections. Watch the OCOV Rally.

NYC Ballot Proposals: 5 Proposals, 4 Experts, 3 Weeks
DemocracyNYC and Women Creating Change hosted a Ballot Proposal IG Live Series, an Instagram Live fireside chat series titled “5 Proposals, 4, Experts, 3 Weeks.” The final live of the series featured Meeta Anand Nonprofit Leader and Former Census 2020 Senior Fellow, NYIC and Maritza Silva-Farrell from the ALIGN NY. Disrupting Power and Making Herstory in NYC
WCC co-sponsored NYIC’s and AAF’s Disrupting Power and Making Herstory in NYC. This two-part panel series taking place in October & November featured panels of women of color who ran campaigns for City Council in the 2021 Primary Elections and included Q&A sections. Panel 1 was a discussion with candidates on their campaign & experience with Moumita Ahmed, Sandy Nurse, Mino Lora, and Shahana Hanif as panelists.

Spotlight on Board of Elections Reform
Women Creating Change and DemocracyNYC co-hosted an event to discuss potential reforms to the New York City Board of Elections. The all-women panel was moderated by DeNora Getachew, CEO, DoSomething.org, and included esteemed panelists Dr. Hazel N. Dukes, President, NAACP New York State Conference; Liz Krueger, New York State Senate, District 28; Chisun Lee, Deputy Director, Election Reform Program, Brennan Center for Justice; Xamayla Rose, Deputy Public Advocate for Civic and Community Empowerment; and Nily Rozic, New York State Assembly, District 25. WCC was excited to participate in J.P. Morgan & Chase Co.’s Code For Good Hackathon! Students participating in the 24 HR Hackathon had great ideas and will help WCC serve NYC women, prioritizing those who are underrepresented and systemically excluded in civic engagement arenas/spaces/actions. Our City Our Vote Rally for One Million Voices
WCC joined elected officials, community members, and the Our City Our Vote Coalition for a rally in Corona, Queens. The coalition celebrated reaching 34 co-sponsors and called on the New York City Council to immediately schedule a hearing on Intro. 1867.
