Women Creating Change and DemocracyNYC co-hosted an event on Wednesday, October 6th to discuss potential reforms to the New York City Board of Elections. The all-women panel was moderated by DeNora Getachew, CEO, DoSomething.org, and included esteemed panelists Dr. Hazel N. Dukes, President, NAACP New York State Conference; Liz Krueger, New York State Senate, District 28; Chisun Lee, Deputy Director, Election Reform Program, Brennan Center for Justice; Xamayla Rose, Deputy Public Advocate for Civic and Community Empowerment; and Nily Rozic, New York State Assembly, District 25.
The dynamic group discussed the importance and challenges of election administration, the consequences of mismanaged elections, and how election administration can be a form of voter suppression and can lead to the disenfranchisement of underrepresented communities. Panelists also urged the audience to work together to enact much-needed reforms to create a more equitable election system in New York City. You can watch the discussion here.
