Tour: Museum of the Chinese in America, A Guided Walk Through Chinatown and a Dim Sum Lunch

Our Chinese-American experience begins with a guided tour of the exhibit With a Single Step: Stories in the Making of America, designed by the famed architect  Maya Lin. This exhibit (new since the last WCC tour there),  interweaves  historical and political information about Chinese immigration to the United States  with personal stories of individual immigrants. It looks at how Chinese Americans have viewed themselves, and have been viewed, in American Society, and  discusses the impact of Chinese-Americans on American politics, culture and life.

After the museum tour we’ll embark on a 75 minute guided  walk through the history and culture of Chinatown from its rise from a Native American village to one of the fastest growing immigrant communities of present day New York City.

We’ll cap the morning with an optional, Dutch treat lunch at one of Chinatown’s best known dim sum restaurants.
