Our City, Our Vote aims to expand municipal voting rights so that legal permanent residents and those with work authorization can vote in local elections in New York City. Over 900,000 New Yorkers who live legally in the city cannot vote in local elections because of their citizenship status. These individuals live, work, and pay taxes in our city, but are not afforded the right to weigh in on its future by casting a ballot.

During the event, participants will learn more about the New York City Council legislation, which was introduced by Council Member Rodríguez in January 2020; why it’s important; who it affects; and how to take action to support it.

For over 100 years, ensuring the voices of New Yorkers are heard has been central to the work of WCC. WCC was founded by suffragists who fought diligently for passage of the 19th Amendment. Today as Women Creating Change, expanding voting rights is one of our policy priorities as part of our mission to ensure underserved women have a seat at the table. WCC is proud to be part of the Our City, Our Vote Coalition and to present this Table Talk, especially as we approach the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment on August 18th.

We hope you will join us with this link for this very important conversation on July 29th!
