On December 10th, WCC was proud to host Table Talk Online: Celebrating Women’s Activism with special guest Spirit Tawfiq from WomensActivism.NYC, and moderated by (Grace) Angela Henry, WCC Lifetime Member.
The event focused on the work of WomensActivism.NYC, which has a goal of collecting 20,000 stories about incredible women by the end of 2020 to honor the centennial of women’s suffrage. WomensActivism.NYC is a project of the NYC Department of Records and Information Services.
Attendees learned about the power of storytelling and this historic opportunity to collect untold stories about women from all over the world. Spirit described how her mother Minnijean Brown-Trickey, a civil rights activist and member of the Little Rock Nine, inspired the project and her life’s work. After a lively conversation, Spirit offered guidance to participants about how to write and submit their stories. She held an impromptu interview with longtime member and former WCC Board member, Katie Lobach, who shared her experience as one of ten women in her class at Columbia University Medical School.
