WCC and Central Brooklyn Partners Host Free Advocacy Workshop
New York, NY – June 12, 2026 – Women Creating Change (WCC), the Central and South East Brooklyn Community Development Corporation (CXSE BK), Caribbean Equality Project, and Flatbush Mixtape will host a free community dinner and advocacy workshop on June 22, 2026, at Unity Church of Brooklyn, 1901 Beverley Road, Brooklyn, NY. The evening is open to women and gender-expansive people in Central Brooklyn and includes a shared meal followed by a facilitated training on power mapping, the art of identifying who has influence with decision makers and leveraging relationships with them to create change.
The workshop brings together four organizations working across health equity, environmental justice, LGBTQ+ immigrant rights, gender equity and mutual aid in Brooklyn. It is part of WCC’s Central Brooklyn Community Workshop series, which brings civic leadership training directly to the communities where it is needed most.
“When people have the tools to identify, engage and influence decision makers directly, they hold the power to transform their communities,” said Laura Edidin, Senior Vice President of Programs and Partnerships at Women Creating Change.
A Partnership Rooted in Central Brooklyn
CXSE BK amplifies the voices of Central and South East Brooklyn residents to build communities that nurture their minds, bodies, and environments. The organization prioritizes equity and justice in physical, mental, maternal, and environmental health, and works to galvanize communities block by block to mitigate health disparities while preserving the environment.
Caribbean Equality Project is New York’s only Caribbean LGBTQ+ immigrant rights organization. For a decade, the grassroots organization has served Afro and Indo-Caribbean LGBTQ+ New Yorkers through advocacy, mental health services, public education, community organizing, and cultural programming to end hate violence in the Caribbean diaspora.
Flatbush Mixtape is a grassroots mutual-aid collective dedicated to fostering leadership and neighborly bonds. Their mission is to empower every individual to become a catalyst for change, ensuring that basic needs are met through the cultivation of a solidarity economy.
