WCC and Ancient Song Host Free Birth Justice Workshop in Brooklyn

New York, NY – June 17, 2026 – Women Creating Change (WCC) and Ancient Song Inc. invite expecting parents, new parents, doulas, and anyone who cares about the health of birthing families in Central Brooklyn to a free community dinner and birth justice workshop on June 26, 2026, at Ancient Song’s home at 521 Halsey Street, Brooklyn, NY.

Black and Latinx birthing people in Central Brooklyn continue to face some of the steepest barriers to safe, dignified maternal care in New York City. Too many families navigate pregnancy and postpartum without the culturally responsive support they deserve. This evening is about changing that, one conversation, one connection, one community at a time. Participants will share a meal together and take part in an advocacy strategy training grounded in Ancient Song’s birth justice framework, learning practical skills they can use to advocate for better maternal care in their neighborhoods and beyond.

Ancient Song Inc. has been at the heart of Brooklyn’s birth justice movement since 2008. The organization has trained over 2,000 doulas and works every day to ensure that pregnant, postpartum, and parenting people of color have access to high-quality, holistic care regardless of their ability to pay. Their approach is rooted in community, grounded in cultural tradition, and led by the voices and experiences of the families they serve.

“Birth and reproductive justice have been central to WCC’s work since our founding 110 years ago. This event continues that tradition by gathering Central Brooklyn birth justice advocates and putting advocacy tools directly in their hands,” said Laura Edidin, Senior Vice President of Programs and Partnerships at Women Creating Change.
