Dr. Kangela Moore

Dr. Kangela C Moore is a Assistant Director of Law Enforcement at Teamster Local 237. She has over 29 years of experience as a School Safety Agent with the New York City Police Department. She protected the lives of the youth in the NYC Public School System. She was an instructor and throughout her years of service has worked at Queens South Command and the Police Academy. She also reported directly to the School Safety Division Commissioner where she oversaw the social media department for the division.

She is a graduate of The College of New Rochelle (Magna Cum Laude) with a bachelor’s in liberal arts. She has received an Advanced Certification in Labor Relations and a master’s in Labor Studies from CUNY School of Labor & Urban Studies. She is also a certified Mediator in the state of New York. She received her PhD, Doctor of Philosophy -Humanities (Honoris Causa)

Dr. Moore sued the City of New York and won a settlement for $38 Million dollars in a class action suit for equal pay. Her advocacy for Women’s Rights has led her to publicly support the Women’s Equality Party that ultimately became the first party line dedicated to women. She was also instrumental in Gov. Mario Cuomo signing into legislation the Women’s Equality Act. Her hard work and dedication were noted by Cosmopolitan Magazine as “10 Incredible Women of 2015 Who Fought for Equal Pay”. She was number two in their selection of powerful women. She received the “Susan B. Anthony Award” by The National Organization for Woman for her advocacy on equal pay.

A sought-after speaker on pay discrimination. She has been quoted and appeared in various media outlets regarding her story on equal pay for women such as the New York Times, Consumer Reports, Business Insider, Politico, Cosmopolitan, Daily News, Amsterdam, News Day, Times Union and others.

A Community Advocate with over 35 years of civic engagement. She is a park enthusiast and is currently the President of her community-based organization Friends of Brookville Park, in Brookville, Queens for over 16 years. Her involvement has led to secure a $2 million dollar capital project (upgrade to the barbeque, tennis & football grounds) at Brookville Park. She was a board member on Community Board 13 where she was the chair of the Youth and Education committee and of the Seniors, Social Services & Special Needs Committee for over 17 years. Her community involvement has led to legislation to ban synthetic marijuana in local bodegas and the grading system for nursing homes for the state of New York. She is a member of National Association of University Women, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and the American Heart Association Go Red for Women NYC.  She is also a budding genealogist with the prestigious Afro-American Historical Genealogical Society.

One of Dr. Moore’s greatest achievements is becoming a board member at Women Creating Change. She was previously a design team member with the organization and knows firsthand how dedicated this organization is to the advancement of women. She looks forward to empowering other women to become civically engaged.

Dr. Moore is the recipient of several awards for her community service and activism. She is married to Businessman Dwayne J. Moore and has three children. She enjoys reading, genealogy, traveling and her family.
