WCC Commends Mayor’s Commitment to Address Education & Community Well-being
(NEW YORK, N.Y.)—Women Creating Change (WCC) released the statement below following Mayor Eric Adams’ announcement regarding New York City’s FY2026 Executive Budget.
'WCC commends Mayor Adams for preserving and expanding investments that reflect the issues we fight for every day: strong, safe, and healthy communities; educational opportunities; and economic justice.'
The Mayor’s executive budget includes investment in initiatives that support women and their families, including continued funding for CUNY, libraries, adult literacy, and the expansion of after-school programming. These investments are critical to supporting caregivers—primarily women—who make up a significant portion of our city’s caregiving workforce.
WCC are also encouraged by the recognition of New York City’s nonprofit sector as a cornerstone of public service delivery. Women of color represent a significant share of the human services workforce, yet they often experience wage inequities and job instability. Investments that sustain and strengthen this community are essential to building safe, healthy, and economically just communities.
Our recent report, The Power of Participation: Women’s Voting and Civic Engagement in NYC, highlights how barriers, including low wages, caregiving burdens, and limited access to civic resources, continue to limit women’s full participation in shaping the city’s future. The FY2026 Executive Budget addresses many of these concerns and represents a step toward removing those barriers and expanding pathways for women to lead change in their communities.
WCC thank Mayor Adams for advancing a budget that supports the building blocks of civic participation and invests in the future of New Yorkers. These steps align with WCC’s mission to empower women, uplift communities, and strengthen our democracy from the ground up.
