SCOTUS Decision – What now?
On Friday, Women Creating Change released a statement in response to the Supreme Court's heinous abortion decision. Today, we want to make sure New Yorkers have what they need to take concrete actions to make change.
It is a dark time for women in this country.
For nearly 50 years, those who would deny women their most basic rights have been working hard to turn back the clock on established abortion laws. Those rights have now been terminated. And women lose. WCC has been fighting for women’s health and bodily autonomy since our founding by suffragettes more than 100 years ago. In 1918, WCC opened the nation’s first maternity center for underserved women, which became a model in public health circles and significantly reduced maternal mortality rates. Our history is rooted in ensuring women can exert decision-making power to address issues that impact them, their families, and their communities.
Today, Women Creating Change is committed to building a community of women—particularly those facing systemic exclusion, poverty, discrimination, and violence—and providing the tools to advocate for their needs and create change. In the face of this crushing decision, we are fortified by our vision to ensure a more just and equitable NYC where all women are civically engaged.
Now is the time for action.
