Ruth E. Acker, President

Professional Background: In 1985, Ruth Acker founded Acker Ventures, Inc., a financial and management consulting firm which assists start-up companies write their business plans, obtain their early-stage capital and get off the ground. Long-term clients included Health Advocates for Older People, Carnegie East House (an assisted living facility), and the Hudson Valley Technology Development Center. Acker Ventures also provided project finance and alternate energy expertise to Central Hudson Gas & Electric and investment banking firm Ladenburg Thalmann. Prior to serving as President of Acker Ventures, Inc., Ruth was a Vice President of Schuyler Investments Corp., the Coordinator of the Tax-Exempt Financing Program of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as a Foreign Exchange Analyst and Trader, and Management Information Analyst.

Ruth is the past President and Treasurer of her cooperative apartment building; a past member of the Manhattan Borough President’s Solid Waste Advisory Board and Citywide Recycling Advisory Board; a member of the East Sixties Property Owners Association, East Side Neighborhood Association, and Ethical Culture Fieldston Alumni Association.

Ruth has a B.A. in Economics from Case Western Reserve University, an M.B.A. in Finance from Baruch College, City University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
