President’s Letter

Welcome to the Women’s City Club of New York’s Web site!

I encourage you to browse through the site to learn about this time-honored organization. You’ll see why it was founded in 1915, and why it remains equally essential today. The Advocacy & Impact pages describe the important work we do and what we offer our members, as does the Events & Calendar section. I invite you to attend some of our terrific programs and tours, to learn firsthand about the important work of our civic committees and task forces, and to hear from and interact with key public officials. If you want to stay current on major issues confronting New York City, we provide the best education in town! If you care about quality-of-life matters affecting New Yorkers, consider joining us in shaping public policy and making our city a better place to live and work.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer presents a proclamation to WCC President Ruth Acker in honor of WCC's work.

In this volunteer-led organization, our members are an inspiration. They bring richly diverse backgrounds, experiences and viewpoints. Their loyalty, commitment, tireless efforts and keen knowledge in so many areas keep the organization highly effective and focused. Our small, resourceful staff brings professionalism, creativity and energy and prides itself on keeping us moving forward. It is a privilege to preside over an organization that attracts such dedicated individuals, and I thank them deeply for their many contributions.

Leading up to our 100th anniversary in 2015, we’ve been making changes at the Women’s City Club. We have created new committees and task forces to address current concerns. We’re now emailing our calendar and newsletter to be gentler on the environment (a prime interest of ours). We recently launched this comprehensive new website. We’ve added “Lunchtimes with Legislators” to our programs, and are launching in-house seminars on government to help our members explore the basic building blocks of governmental legislative, executive and judicial structures. Programs take place in both daytime and evening hours for the convenience of members, whether working or not, and a Forum on the Web site’s Member Section now allows for maximum participation, at any time and from anywhere. Through these shared experiences, members form warm and lasting bonds.

Do consider contributing your own knowledge, experience and talents to this venerable organization by joining us and/or supporting our work. It would be my pleasure to welcome you to the Women’s City Club of New York!
