Alan J. Pakula’s 1981 film about a worldwide financial takeover was derisively reviewed as “a film about finance.” In the 30 years since the film’s release, that criticism doesn’t stand up so well. Recent reviews have suggested that the plot may not be as unlikely as it seemed in 1981. Just alter the names of the principals, the multi-national corporations, and the nations involved. Let’s see how it seems in fall 2010.
Conspiracy fascinated Pakula, evident in the plots of Pakula’s other films as well, such as All the President’s Men, The Parallex View, and The Pelican Brief. Pakula produced Rollover with Jane Fonda’s company. She, Kris Kristofferson, and Hume Cronyn starred. The film’s locations are in NYC.
